An unusual morning --- at 6:00 a.m. it was pouring rain --- at 6:15 a.m. it suddenly stopped raining, and the sky cleared, and this is what it was like:

A Short Trip Along The Maine Coast

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

We decided to do a short trip along the coast while we waited for our new crew to arrive.

Falmouth, Maine

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Today is the final day of the Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Association Maine Cruise.  A wonderful sail brought us to Falmouth, Maine where we went exploring and had our final gathering.

This is the view from the town landing at Falmouth.  Welcome to Casco Bay.

Comaraderie Among Sailors

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

We woke to another beautiful Maine day of sun and light winds.  So we decided to go sailing just for the sake of sailing (no particular immediate destination planned).  We passed Little Mark Island Monument as we sailed out into the Gulf of Maine.

A few miles off shore we could see the lighthouse on Webster Rock so we decided to sail out to it and back.  It turned out to be a beautiful piece of stonework.

As the afternoon winds filled in we ran down to the Goslings - which is where the Cape Dory Cruise was to meet for the night.  It is a very scenic and peaceful place when not overrun by powerboats.

Everyone gathered for happy hour on one of the CD 36s.  A good time was had by all.

Floating Through Space

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

It rained all morning.  By noon the showers seemed to have passed and we were anxious to get out and about.  So we set sail --- destination to be determined by events.  It turned out to be one of the most peaceful sails that we have ever had.  All the "summer complaints" (tourists) had stayed home due to the weather, and nearly all the watermen had finished their day of work.  Consequently, there was essentially no noise on the water.  Winds were light, and all one could hear was the faint lapping of water against the hull as we ghosted along.

The day glass ran out at Potts Harbor so that is where we dropped the hook and went exploring.  The stormy clouds cleared as the sun set.

Sailing On To Snow Island

The next stop on the 2011 Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Association Maine Cruise was the Snow Island anchorage at the top of Quahog Bay.  Here you can see the first mate practicing her skipper skills as we sail to the next harbor.

Cape Dory Rendezvous At The Basin

Monday, August 8th, 2011

The Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Association organized a week long cruise in Casco Bay.  We joined the boats at the Basin (off of the New Meadows River).

These are some of the boats that were able to make the rendezvous.  I apologize for the lack of clarity of the photos.  I realized after the fact that conflicting temperatures had caused condensation on the camera lens.
